TED Announces TED-Ed

from Chris Anderson:

After more than a year of planning and dreaming, today we’re launching our TED-Ed website, a new open platform for using video in education.
It allows any teacher to take a video of their choice (yes, any video on YouTube, not just ours) and make it the heart of a “lesson” that can easily be assigned in class or as homework, complete with context, follow-up questions and further resources.  The site is in beta. But we think there’s enough there to show why we’re so excited about this.
This whole process is explained really well in this video created by the TED-Ed team.
And a more detailed post explaining our thinking behind the site can be read here.
I hope you’ll explore the new site and be as excited about it as we are. And please share your feedback by emailing education@ted.com. We’re eager to know how you think TED-Ed might best be used, and how we might improve it. If it works, it will be, as ever, through the power of all of us.
With best regards,
Chris Anderson

TEDxHilo we’re excited to share this information from TED. It’s especially important to many of our subscribers that are educators but also important for any parent or any age student.

“…a seminal moment for online education.”

What is TEDx?

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.

Our annual event in Hilo is called TEDxHilo, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxHilo event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
